Ogden "Ogie" Thomas
Ogden A. “Oggie” Thomas, 85, of Greenup, Kentucky passed away, Thursday, April 9, 2015 in Okeechobee, Florida after a short illness.
Ogden was born August 12, 1929 in Winchester, Kentucky a son of the late Britt S. and Gladys Ogden Thomas.
“Oggie”, as he was known to friends, retired from Ashland Petroleum in 1984 where he was the manager of Industrial roofing sales. He spent the next 30 years in activates that he enjoyed most- restoring a 1936 Stinson airplane, several vintage cars, along with numerous projects he was always planning.
Oggie loved Marshall and all Marshall sports- particularly football. He claimed to have been one of the first tailgaters at Prindle Field starting in the 1950’s. Oggie, the late Gene Ball and MU alumni’s working at Ashland Oil started the Big Green Scholarship dinner which was held for many years at the Ashland Oil Corporate building. This event is now a major fundraiser for the Big Green. In December 2014, he was thrilled to be able to attend the Boca Raton Bowl to see Marshall finish a winning season

Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 am Wednesday, April 15, 2015 at Ridgelawn Memorial Park in Huntington, WV. Friends are invited to come by the Thomas’s home after the services to share remembrances. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the Ogden A. Thomas Endowed Scholarship of the Big Green Scholarship Foundation for support of Marshall student athletes.
