James Ercel Carpenter, 93, of Greenup, Kentucky went to be with the Lord on March 18, 2016 at Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital surrounded by his family.
Ercel was born October 5, 1922 in Lost Creek, Kentucky a son of the late John and Nannie Bush Carpenter.
He was retired from C&O Railroad where he worked for 35 years as a supervisor.
He served in the United States Army and was a World War II and Battle of Bulge Veteran.
Ercel was a member of Wurtland Missionary Baptist Church. He was a Deacon for 60 years and Chairman of the Deacons at the church. Over the years he has taught Sunday school and was a member of the choir. He was a very active church member.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 pm Tuesday, March 22, 2016 at Wurtland Missionary Baptist Church in Wurtland, Kentucky by Pastor Clyde Bolling and Bro. Marvin Boggs. Burial will be in the Bellefonte Memorial Garden in Flatwoods, Kentucky. Military Rites will be conducted by Marine Corps League Greenbo Detachment #1345.
Visitation will be from 6:00-9:00 pm on Monday at Reed Funeral Home in Greenup and one hour visitation before the service on Tuesday at the church. Masonic Rites will be conducted at 7:00 pm during the visitation on Monday.
