Russell Earl Adkins
Russell Earl Adkins, 89, of Lloyd, Kentucky was welcomed home by his Savior, Tuesday, September 4, 2018 at Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital in Russell following a brief illness.
Earl was born January 31, 1929 in South Shore, Kentucky a son of the late Edward and Lynnie Cox Adkins. Earl spent his career working for the railroad, first with Norfolk and Southern and later for CSX where he operated an electric crane for 28 years with no accidents.
He was a devout Christian from the time he was a teen. He attended Greenup First Baptist Church. He was a godly man, quick to tell anyone how the Lord had blessed him. He was devoted to his family and especially to the love of his life, Garnet, to whom he was married 61 years. He was an avid Kentucky Wildcats fan. Earl never met a stranger and he loved people.
Earl proudly served his country in the United States Navy aboard the USS Silverstein patrolling the China Sea during the Korean Conflict from 1950 – 1954 based in Alaska and Hawaii. During his time, he formed enduring friendships and memories.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am on Friday September 7, 2018 at First Baptist Church of Greenup by Dr. Tom Melvin and Bro. Wayne Stephenson. Burial will be in Kentucky Veterans Cemetery North East. Military Rites performed by Marine corps league greenbo detachment #1345. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 pm at Reed Funeral Home on Thursday and one hour before the service on Friday at the church. Condolences may be made at rlrfuneralhome.com
