Ralph Redmond, 99, of Argillite, Kentucky went to be with the Lord on Wednesday June 10, 2020 at his residence in Argillite. Mr. Redmond was born May 27, 1921 in Argillite, Kentucky a son of the late George Prichard and Addie Forrest Redmond. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one sister Grace Redmond.
Ralph served in the Army during WWII. He was captured in Italy and traveled to Germany in a boxcar referred to as 40x8. The cars would hold 40 men or 8 horses.
He was held at a work farm for 19 months where a barn was partitioned off and used to house the prisoners. His job was to milk the cows.
When the war ended the prisoners began a winter march to Hanover, Germany that took almost three months. They slept in fields and occasionally a barn and ate potatoes boiled in tin cans.
From Hanover they flew to La Har, France to Camp Lucky Strike where they boarded a ship and returned to the United States.
He is survived by his loving wife of 72 years Helen Fern Stewart Redmond

Ruth Ann (David) Mullins of Argillite, Kentucky
One grandson
Randall (Kenni) Redmond of Argillite, Kentucky
Three great grandchildren
Cole (Megan) Redmond, Dustin Redmond, and Lakin Redmond.
A private funeral service will be held Sunday June 14, 2020 at Reed Funeral Home in Greenup, Kentucky by Bro. Chris Bellew. Burial will be in Redmond Cemetery in Argillite, Kentucky. The family would like to thank the following Hospice doctor, nurses, and support personnel for the excellent care he received; Dr. Jackie Kazee, Amanda, Staci, Raelene, Blake, Renee, Louvaghn, Gail, Bonnie, Betsy.
