Blanche Turner



Blanche Marcella Allen Turner, 93, of Russell, formerly of Greenup, was called to meet the Lord on December 3, 2020 at Kingsbrook Lifecare Center. She was born August 2, 1927 at Red Hot in Greenup County to the late Rudolph and Ollie Allen. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Joe P. Turner, whom she married on November 26, 1952 after his return from Korea. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Lloyd Allen of David, KY and two sisters, Thelma Bartram of Xenia, OH and Dorothy Garthee of Lexington, KY.


She was a 1945 graduate of Greenup High School, a 1947 graduate of Ashland Junior College, and a 1957 graduate of Marshall University.


She began teaching in a one room school in 1947 at the mouth of Smith Branch in Greenup County and a year later moved to the Raceland-Worthington school system where she taught for 43 years until her retirement in 1991. She was a former member of First Baptist Church of Greenup. She enjoyed needlepoint, traveling, and spending time with her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and close friends.

She is survived by a son, Joe D. (Jill) Turner of Bellefonte; two grandchildren, Justin (Rachael) Turner of Bellefonte and Jessica (Dane) Haukedahl of Bellefonte; great-grandchildren Wyatt Turner, Garrett Turner, Ava Fain and Carson Fain; a sister-in-law Paulene Allen of David, KY; nieces Teresa Brown of Lexington, KY, Theosa (John) Hoffeld of Lexington, KY and Cheryl (Kenny) Riggsby of Xenia, OH; nephews Jeffery and Jerry Allen of Lexington, KY; and several grand nieces, grand nephews, cousins and special friends.

Graveside Service will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, December 7, 2020 at Bellefonte Memorial Gardens by Bro. James Byrd. Reed Funeral Home in Greenup, Kentucky is in charge of arrangements. Condolences may be made at www.rlrfuneralhome.com. Due to Covid-19 masks are required.


The family would like to thank the dedicated caregivers of the 2nd Floor Garden View wing of Kingsbrook Lifecare Center for their excellent care of our mother, grandmother, and great grandmother during her time there.
