Charles Alvin Rose



Charles Alvin Rose, of Greenup, Kentucky went to be with the Lord, Saturday, April 13th, 2024, at home, surrounded by his loving family. He had just celebrated his 50th anniversary to his devoted wife, Phoebe. Charles was born on August 1, 1954, in Ironton, Ohio, a son of the late Charles E. and Doris Bentley Rose. After 32 years of service, “Charlie” retired as a Conductor for CSX Railroad. He was a member of Smith Lodge #775 and Lodge #89. He proudly served as Past Master for Smith Lodge in 2013 and he attended Hoods Creek Freewill Baptist Church.

 

Affectionately known as “Buck” to many, he loved playing guitar and leading church services. He enjoyed woodworking, woodcarving, raising horses, and spending time with his grandchildren.

 

In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by a son, Charles Alan Rose.

He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Phoebe Baker Rose; two sons, Roger (Shelley) Rose and Patrick (Janel) Rose, both of Greenup, Kentucky; three sisters, Cheryl Rose Akers of Ashland, Kentucky, Mel Rose (Gene) Thomas of Jacksonville, Florida, and Teri Rose (Rev. James) Harris of Argillite, KY.

 

Charles, always called “Poppy” by his grandkids, is survived by five grandchildren, Brandon Kiser, Lorna Rose, Holly (Levi Lewis) Rose, Kenton (Kala Chapman) Rose, and Miranda (Caden Thomas) Rose; one great-grandson, Aaron Lewis; and two great-grandchildren on the way, Clara Kaye and Liam Charles.

 

Charles also had many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins and countless other family members and friends who will miss him dearly.


Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 pm Wednesday, April 17, 2024, at Reed Funeral Home in Greenup by Ministers Kevin Witt and Larry Barker.  Burial will be in the Whitt Cemetery in Argillite, Kentucky. Visitation will be Tuesday from 6:00 to 8:00pm, Masonic rites will be conducted during the visitation on Tuesday by Smith Lodge #775. Visitation will also be one hour before the service on Wednesday at the funeral home. Condolences may be made at www.rlrfuneralhome.com.
