Dr. Robert Brooks Callihan Jr. DMD



Dr. Robert Brooks Callihan Jr. DMD, 74, of Greenup, Kentucky passed away, Tuesday, September 3, 2024, at Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Kentucky surrounded by his loving family. Brooks was born July 27, 1950, in Ashland, Kentucky, a son of the late Robert Brooks Sr. and Laura Avanelle Norris Callihan. Brooks was a 1968 graduate of the former Greenup High School, where he played in the Jazz Band. He was a member of the Greenup Christian Church. He attended Morehead State University where he played in the Morehead Jazz Ensemble.  Brooks loved playing music.  He was a member of the National Guards and the National Guard Band. He played in the Portsmouth Wind Symphony Orchestra and River Cities Big Band for many years. Brooks enjoyed playing music with local jazz musicians such as Ronnie Ball and Ray Ross, Sr. In 1976 Brooks graduated from Louisville School of Dentistry with a Doctor of Dental Medicine degree.  He was the owner of Brooks Callihan Dentistry in Greenup for many years and was loved by many patients. He loved to play darts, fishing, boating and loved living on the Ohio River. He played golf and gardened around the house. He was also an avid Louisville Cardinal fan. Brooks was full of life and will be greatly missed by his family and friends. 


In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter Amy Young.


He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Robin Elizabeth Archey Callihan; a son Mac Callihan of Ashland, Kentucky; a daughter Alexia Callihan of Covington, Kentucky; a grandson Rowan Callihan; two brothers Kevin Michael Callihan of Athens, Ohio and Timothy “Tim” Norris (Debbie) Callihan of St. Louis, Missouri; three sisters Rebecca “Bobbie Sue” Callihan of Lexington, Kentucky, Martha Deane “Marty” North of Knoxville, Tennessee and Sally (David) Stapf of Greenup, Kentucky; special sister in laws Mandy Archey of Ashland, Kentucky and Karen (Paul) Ford of Wurtland, Kentucky; and a host of nieces and nephews. 


There will be a visitation from 6:00 - 8:00pm, Tuesday, September 10, 2024, at Reed Funeral Home in Greenup, Kentucky. There will be a celebration of life at a later date. Condolences may be made at www.rlrfuneralhome.com.
