Earl Marshall
Earl R. Marshall, 88, of Flatwoods, Kentucky, left this earth to be with our Lord and Savior on Friday, October 29, 2021. Earl was born September 11, 1933 in Greenup County, Kentucky, son of the late Z.T. and Clara Boyles Marshall.
He was retired from C&O Railway Co., and the United States Air Force, where he served 4 years active duty, and 17 years in active reserves. In addition, he served 4 years as a deputy sheriff, and 17 years as the elected Sheriff of Greenup County. He retired from the Sheriff’s office on 12/31/1999. After retirement, he served as Director of the Kentucky Sheriff’s Association. He also volunteered with the pastoral office at King’s Daughters Hospital and the Meals On Wheels program at Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital.
Earl was a member of Raceland Christian Church. He was also a former member of Greenup Christian Church, where he served as a deacon and elder for many years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Johanna Lynn Marshall, 2 brothers, John and Ralph Marshall, and 5 sisters, Avalee Marshall, Freda Marshall, Linda Marshall, Nella Faye Burton, and Virginia Hieneman.
He is survived by his loving wife, Margaret Horsley Marshall, to whom he was married for 65 years. Additionally, he is survived by 2 daughters, Paula Hollis of Vineyard Haven, Ma., Julie (Ted) Brooks of Hampton Falls, NH, 1 son, Jon Marshall of Catlettsburg, Ky, 3 sisters, Ann Wells, Marilyn Bergman, Dottie Evans, and 1 brother, Cecil Marshall. He was completely devoted to his 4 granddaughters, Ashley (Dan)Parker, Kirsten Hollis, Morgan McGinnis, and Lily McGinnis, as well as 2 great-granddaughters, Addison Muriel Parker and Isla Belle Parker. Earl was also instrumental in assisting his daughter Paula in raising 3 African refugee brothers (Peter, Philip, and John Manga).
Funeral service will be conducted at 1:00pm on Wednesday, November 3, 2021 at Reed Funeral Home in Greenup, Ky by Elder Greg Denton. Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00pm on Tuesday at the funeral home and 1 hour prior to the service on Wednesday. Burial will be in Bellefonte Memorial Gardens in Flatwoods, Ky.
