Helen Fern Redmond

Helen Fern Redmond, 94, of Argillite, Kentucky, went home to be with the Lord, Tuesday, March 30, 2021 at King's Daughters' Medical Center in Ashland, Kentucky. Fern was born June 5, 1926, in Grayson, Kentucky, a daughter of the late Ellis and Grace Duley Stewart. She attended Lindsey Chapel United Methodist Church since she was a child and was a 1944 graduate of Hitchins High School. Fern grew up on a dairy farm in Carter County, Kentucky. She once said that she never wanted to see another cow when she left home. She met and married Ralph Redmond from Greenup County, who just happened to run a dairy farm. Ralph told Fern the only reason he married her was because she knew how to milk cows. For 40 years they milked cows alongside one another and were married for 72 years and 9 months. Fern also helped Ralph raise tobacco for many years. She raised a big garden every year and had a cellar full of canned vegetables. Fern enjoyed watching game shows, especially Wheel of Fortune, talking on the phone with her friends and sitting on the carport watching the traffic go by. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Redmond; a brother, Earl Stewart; a sister, Ruth Parsons; and a daughter-in-law, Louise Redmond. She is survived by a son, Raymond Redmond of Argillite, Kentucky; a daughter, Ruth Ann (David) Mullins of Argillite, Kentucky; a grandson, Randall (Kenni) Redmond of Argillite, Kentucky; three great-grandchildren, Cole (Megan) Redmond and great-great grandson Ridge due in July of Oldtown, Dustin Redmond of Argillite, Kentucky, and Lakin Redmond of Argillite; a host of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, April 2, 2021, at Reed Funeral Home in Greenup by Pastor Pat Kees. Burial will be in the Redmond Cemetery in Argillite. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until service time on Friday at the funeral home. The family would like to thank the many doctors and nurses in ICU at King's Daughters' Medical Center for the wonderful care she received. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St Jude Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Condolences may be made at rlrfunealhome.com.
