James David Browning Sr.

James David Browning Sr., 84, of Flatwoods, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, February 14, 2023, at King’s Daughters’ Medical Center in Ashland, Kentucky. James was born April 12, 1938, in Sara Ann (Logan County), West Virginia a son of the late Moss and Edith Blevins Browning. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife Connie Jenkins Browning as well as his grandson Clayton James Browning; five brothers Billy Joe Browning, Moss Browning Jr., Wilbur Allen Browning, Bobby Fred Browning, and George Eddly Browning; five sisters Alice Browning, Emma Jean Browning, Tressie Mae Browning Thompson, Frances Ann Browning, and Mable Browning Hale; a brother-in-law Gary Jenkins.

James was a 1956 graduate of Boyd County High School and was a United States Army Veteran. He honorably served in the military during the Cuban Missile Crisis, followed by a long career at AK Steel (Semet Solvay Coke Plant) in Ashland, Kentucky. He loved UK athletics, tending his garden and keeping his bees.

He is survived by two sons, James David Browning of Flatwoods, Kentucky and Dana Dale (Regina) Browning of Shelbyville, Kentucky, two grandchildren Emma Browning and Wade Browning; a brother John (Lynn) Browning of Ashland, Kentucky; a sister Eloise (George) Rye of Lake Jackson, Florida; a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 pm, Friday, February 17, 2023, at Reed Funeral Home in Greenup, Kentucky by Minister Mike Dennis. Burial will be in Bellefonte Memorial Gardens in Flatwoods, Kentucky. Visitation will be from 11:00 am until service time on Friday at the funeral home.
