Joshua Allen Bates

Joshua Allen Bates, 46, of Greenup, Kentucky passed away Thursday, September 5, 2024, at Adena Regional Medical Center in Chillicothe, Ohio. Josh was born August 3, 1978, in Ashland, Kentucky, a son of Mark and Johnda Carpenter Bates.

He graduated from Greenup County High School in 1997. He was baptized at Danleyton Missionary Baptist Church at the age of ten. Josh worked as a conductor for Norfolk Southern Railway. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and following sports, especially the University of Kentucky Wildcats.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather John “Jr.” Carpenter; step grandfather Lester Robinson; and grandparents Isadore and Nellie Morgan Bates.

In addition to his parents he is survived by his wife of 18 years Marie Liles Bates; one son Cameron Bates of Greenup, Kentucky; two daughters Josie Bates and Liv Preslee Bates both of Greenup, Kentucky; one brother Cody (Sharon) Bates of Raceland, Kentucky; one sister Staci (Nathan) Imel of Greenup, Kentucky; grandmother Mornie “Mae” Allen Carpenter Robinson of Worthington, Kentucky; father in law and mother in law Kenny Liles and Kelly Carver Bentley; sister in law Sara Bentley of Lexington, Kentucky and Amanda (Anthony) Kiebler of South Shore, Kentucky; nieces and nephews Sutton (Alex) Chapman, Hudson Imel, Jude Imel, Charlie Bates, Gage Kiebler, Jacob Kiebler, Faren Bentley, and Karter Stapleton; a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, at Reed Funeral Home in Greenup, Kentucky by Pastor Kenneth Martin III. Burial will be in Bates Cemetery in Ashland, Kentucky. Visitation will be from 11:00 am until service time on Tuesday. Condolences may be made at www.rlrfuneralhome.com.
