Nannie Elizabeth Howard Manis

Nannie Elizabeth Howard Manis, 90, of York, Kentucky, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Wednesday, August 28, 2024, at King’s Daughters’ Medical Center in Ashland Kentucky surrounded by her family who loved her dearly. Nannie was born September 25, 1933, in York, Kentucky, a daughter of the late Burns and Essie Howard.  

Nannie was a lifelong member of the United Pentecostal Church of Apostolic Faith in York, Kentucky, and was an active participant in the South Shore Homemakers, leaving behind a legacy of love and dedication. She was known for her passion for gardening, cooking, and playing rummy with family and friends. Nannie’s apple stack cakes and chicken and dumplings were a beloved specialty, a testament to her nurturing spirit. She adored her family and had a special place in her heart for her grandchildren and great grandchildren, who were the joy of her life.

She was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband William B. “Bill” Manis Sr.; infant daughter Kathy Diane Manis; four brothers Henry Howard, Hargest Howard, Arnett Howard and Scott Howard

She is survived by a son William “Bill” (Lorie) Manis Jr. of Flatwoods, Kentucky; two daughters Connie (Donald) Gunter of Flatwoods, Kentucky and Robin Scaggs of Raceland, Kentucky; five grandchildren Drew (Megan) Scaggs, Austin (Lynnetta) Manis, Derek (Tiffany) Manis, Hope (Kolton) Billings, and Jared (Katie) Manis; six great grandchildren Oaklynn Manis, Ash Manis, Mason Billings, Rylie Manis, Jackson Manis, and Mercy Billings; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Sunday, September 1, 2024, at Reed Funeral Home in Greenup, Kentucky by Rev. Anthony Keeton and Rev. Shaun Howard. Burial will be in Howard Cemetery in York, Kentucky. Visitation will be from 6:00 – 8:00 pm on Saturday, August 31, 2024, at the funeral home and one hour before the service on Saturday.
