Nida Carol Spurlock
Nida Carol Spurlock, 86, of Russell, Kentucky, went to her heavenly home to be with her Lord and Savior, Friday, August 2, 2024, at Oakmont Manor in Flatwoods, Kentucky surrounded by family and friends at Oakmont who loved and cared for her. Nida was born December 7, 1937, in Greenup, Kentucky, a daughter of the late Walter and Louise Boyle Nelson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her grandparents Charles and Neva Kaut Boyle and other dearly loved family members and friends. She was a 1955 graduate of Wurtland High School. In her early career, Nida Worked for attorneys Joe Bates and L.H. Nichols in Greenup, as well at the Greenup News. She was a retired clerk from CSX Railroad with 21 years of dedicated service. She was a devoted member of the Mead Memorial United Methodist Church in Russell for 50 plus years. She actively participated in playing the piano, singing in the choir, and serving as the financial secretary for several years. Even in her later years, she found joy and loved sitting among her friends in church, worshiping her Savior, singing hymns, and listening to the sermons. One of her favorite hobbies was craft making. In her earlier days, Nida cherished spending time with her mother Louise. Together they enjoyed shopping, visiting family and friends and attending church. On many occasions they could be found going to numerous yard sales to search for a bargain. Nida Carol will forever be remembered as a loving and selfless lady who always prioritized her family and friends. Her caring nature and willingness to help others will be deeply missed.
She is survived by two sons Kevin Mark Spurlock of Ashland, Kentucky and Eric Kyle Spurlock of Bowling Green Kentucky; two brothers Marvin (Barbara) Nelson and Randall (Joyce) Nelson both of Greenup, Kentucky; a grandson Elliott Spurlock who held a special place in her heart and affectionately called him “Peaches”.
Funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 am, Thursday, August 8, 2024, at Reed Funeral Home in Greenup, Kentucky by Pastor Larry Puryear and Rev. Jack Edwards. Burial will be in Bellefonte Memorial Gardens in Flatwoods, Kentucky. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00pm, Wednesday, August 7 and one hour before the service on Thursday at the funeral home.
